Overall, reviewers have noted that the combination of the games elements "straddles so many entertainment art forms so expertly that it's the best demonstration yet how flexible this medium can be. It's no longer just another shooter wrapped up in a pretty game engine, but a story that exists and unfolds inside the most convincing and elaborate and artistic game world ever conceived."

Dette skriver Wikipedia om DRM-en SecuROM i BioShock:

... the solution to these limitations is to uninstall the game before one reinstall or format the harddrive. Uninstalling the game registers it the same way installing it does. If an uninstall is not performed, SecuROM considers that the player is using the game on several computers. ... However, 2k Games forum users are still reporting that this does not work.

Installation of the demo version, like the retail version, includes SecuROM but also creates a number of registry entries which are undeletable even with full administrator rights on Windows, short of a reformat. ...

For en tragedie DRM er.

Oppdatering 29. aug. 2007: Akkurat i det jeg begynte å helle mot at jeg kanskje allikevel skulle kjøpe BioShock kom jeg over dette: BioShock Soaked in DRM Fiasco, (Twitch Guru, 27. aug. 2007):

There's no question, however, that the issues surrounding SecuROM have triggered a badly botched launch for an early contender for game of the year. In fact, this may go down as the worst fumble in PC game launch history.
